Whiplash

What Is Whiplash?

Whiplash is an injury to the neck that results from a rapid and forceful movement of the neck in a back-and-forth motion, like the cracking of a whip. This type of injury is often seen in victims of rear-end car accidents, but it can also be caused by physical abuse, sports accidents, and other traumas, such as falling down hard. Symptoms of whiplash may not appear for days or even weeks after an injury, and it is important to seek medical attention in order to prevent any underlying conditions from worsening. Common symptoms of whiplash may include neck pain and stiffness, headaches, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating.

Whiplash Treatment

At MIPM, our goal is to provide prompt and accurate diagnosis and treatment for those who suspect they have whiplash. Our compassionate and dedicated staff will perform a thorough physical examination to determine the cause of your pain. Based on the results of the exam, we will create a customized treatment plan that is tailored to your specific needs and the severity of your condition. This plan may include a combination of various treatments methods to ensure the most effective relief from your symptoms.

Whiplash is typically treated with a combination of therapies and medications. The goal of treatment is to relieve pain, reduce inflammation, and improve mobility. Some common treatments for whiplash include:

  1. Adjustments: Our Doctors use spinal manipulation to realign the neck and reduce pain and discomfort.

  2. Physical therapy: Physical therapists work with patients to help improve their range of motion and relieve pain through exercises and stretches.

  3. Ice and heat therapy: Applying ice to the affected area can help reduce inflammation and swelling, while heat therapy can help relax tight muscles and relieve pain.

4. Massage therapy: Massage therapy can help reduce muscle tension, improve circulation, and relieve pain.

5. Surgery: In severe cases of  whiplash, surgery may be necessary to repair damaged neck tissues.

It’s important to seek treatment as soon as possible after a whiplash injury to prevent further damage and ensure a prompt recovery. Our doctors can help develop a customized treatment plan based on the individual’s symptoms and needs.

Whiplash Spinal Manipulation

At MIPM, we often use spinal manipulation to treat whiplash. This technique helps to identify and realign any neck joints that have been pushed out of place. If the whiplash has caused or exacerbated a herniated disc, our chiropractors may use manual adjustment techniques to reposition the disc. We also offer spinal decompression to help discs return to their proper place, reducing pressure and tension in the neck.

In addition to spinal manipulation, we may also use corrective exercises and posture evaluation. Poor posture, such as hunching the neck, can worsen whiplash symptoms. By stretching and strengthening the neck muscles, you can alleviate pain and prevent future injuries.
